Former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey has shared a heart-wrenching statement revealing that his beloved dog Halo is now presumed dead, an ordeal he says will "continue to haunt" him and his family.

The Wales skipper, who reportedly left Mexico following the tragic disappearance of his pet, stated it's been four weeks since Halo vanished and despite exhaustive efforts to locate her, they've had to confront the likelihood she has "most likely passed away".

Ramsey, his wife Colleen and their three children are devastated by the baffling turn of events, publicly expressing their belief they've been deceived after the search for the missing 10-year-old dog proved unsuccessful, even with a hefty reward on offer.

In a poignant message posted on social media, Ramsey relayed his wife Colleen's words: "It has been 4 weeks to the day Halo went 'missing'.

"We didn't know she was missing for one week. We have done everything we can for three weeks to find her and to find answers.", reports Wales Online.

"We don't think we will ever know what happened. We won't 'move on' from this as you would typically. This will continue to haunt us.

"We have to try and accept that she has most likely passed away.

"We want to thank you all for your support and prayers over the last three weeks."

The 34-year-old had been in Mexico with his family before heading back home last week, as per various reports.

The midfielder was granted compassionate leave just days ago, with his club and teammates rallying behind him with their full backing.

Pumas UNAM have not yet released an official confirmation that Ramsey's contract has been terminated by mutual consent.

Ramsey had previously opened up about Halo's importance to the family, and reports at the time she went missing said the midfielder had been left "distraught" as the search operation expanded.

The most recent update appears to bring the search to a devastating conclusion, with Ramsey acknowledging they might never discover what took place.

He and his loved ones have received an outpouring of sympathy and solidarity from supporters and ex-colleagues following the tragedy.

On her social media account, Colleen shared an emotional video compilation of Halo, accompanied by the words: "You guys didn't know Halo much so let me tell you a bit about her.

"We will continue to search but we have to accept that she has likely passed away. Thank you for all of your support."
