Arsenal’s preparations for Tuesday’s Champions League encounter with Slavia Prague have been overshadowed by fresh injury concerns, with several key players facing late fitness tests.
Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres, who ended a six-game Premier League goal drought during Saturday’s victory over Burnley, was forced off at half-time after what manager Mikel Arteta later described as a “muscular injury.”
The striker’s absence from Monday’s open training session has heightened fears that he may not recover in time, not only for the trip to Prague but also for Saturday’s Premier League meeting with in-form Sunderland.

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was also missing from training, adding to Arsenal’s growing list of potential absentees. There was, however, a minor boost as Martin Zubimendi returned to the pitch after failing to complete the match at Turf Moor.

Unfortunately, the Spanish midfielder will still sit out Tuesday’s European fixture due to suspension, having accumulated three yellow cards in the competition.

Arteta now faces a selection dilemma in attack, with his forward options severely limited. Regular alternatives Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz remain sidelined, while Gabriel Martinelli continues to recover from a muscle problem.
That could open the door for Mikel Merino, who has impressed in the role towards the end of last season. Exciting teenager Andre Harriman-Annous, fresh from a standout debut in last week’s Carabao Cup win over Brighton, may also earn a place in the matchday squad.
The potential absence of Gyokeres is undoubtedly a setback for Arteta, whose side have made a flawless start to their Champions League campaign. A victory in Prague would move Arsenal closer to sealing early qualification for the knockout rounds.
