'His second stupid red card'... German media slam Fabio Vieira after Arsenal loanee's nightmare start at Hamburg

The 25-year-old struggled to make an impact at the Emirates Stadium, with this summer allowing him an opportunity to join Hamburg on loan in the Bundesliga.

While there was some early hope that Fabio Vieira could rediscover his quality, there have been some bumps in the road for the Portuguese star.

Fabio Vieira picks up his second red card in five matches for Hamburg

Fabio Vieira’s first few weeks at Hamburg saw the star pick up two assists, with some belief that he could find his best form away from Arsenal.

However, things have taken a recent turn for the worse, as the playmaker continues to struggle with his disciplinary record.

Vieira picked up a red card late in Hamburg’s draw with Union Berlin, which came with a two-match suspension.

The 25-year-old missed out on a 4-0 thrashing of Mainz and a 2-1 defeat to RB Leipzig before he made his return.

He was handed 26 minutes from the bench against Wolfsburg and then a full start against FC Koln in a game that went from bad to worse.

With the team losing 4-1, Vieira was handed a second yellow card for dissent, resulting in yet another sending off.

Those two red cards in five Bundesliga matches make for a nightmare start to life at Hamburg, with the regional media slamming his display.

BILD said on his most recent display: “Koln effectively shut him down before halftime. He was more noticeable afterwards and had a goal disallowed.

“He was sent off with a second yellow card for dissent at the end. His second stupid red card in five games.”

It’s another frustrating moment for Vieira, who has had a stop-start beginning to his time in Germany.

When he returns from his latest suspension, he’ll be looking to make amends and kick on with some top performances.

Arsenal need improvement from Fabio Vieira for maximum sale value

Arsenal will be keen to see some uptick in form from Fabio Vieira soon, so they can look towards next summer with a plan for a full sale.

The forward has spent two seasons on loan elsewhere, with the spell at Porto ending in underwhelming fashion.

With a contract until 2027, the Gunners will be keen to extract maximum value from the remaining time on his deal to avoid losing him for free.

That could free up some further funds for their own PSR compliance, as well as any potential deals for next summer, with several Arsenal loan stars facing a similar fate.

That may only happen if Vieira can show he is capable of performing at the highest level for whichever teams are interested.

With two assists and two red cards so far, there is work to be done.
