In the first half in fact they were performing very well to be honest. Viktor Gyokeres was taken off because of the fact that he was feeling something in his muscle, this is why Mikel Arteta said that he had to be taken off due to precautionary measures of course. When asked about Martin Zubimendi, he said that he was actually asking to be subbed off to be honest.
