Former Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has made a return to London Colney, eight years after leaving the club for Liverpool. The 32-year-old free agent is using the Gunners’ facilities to maintain his fitness as he eyes a new chapter in his career.
According to Sky Sports, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been training primarily with Arsenal’s Under-21 side to keep up his match sharpness, a privilege made possible by his long-standing ties with the North London outfit, where he first arrived from Southampton in 2011.
The versatile Englishman has been without a club since August, when he and Turkish side Besiktas mutually agreed to terminate his three-year contract a year early. Reports suggest Besiktas paid around €1.75 million (£1.47m) in severance, ending a difficult spell plagued by injuries.

During his time in Istanbul, Oxlade-Chamberlain managed just 50 appearances and five goals, with recurring fitness setbacks including a knee ligament issue and hamstring troubles, limiting his impact.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s return to Arsenal stirs fond memories for supporters who recall his explosive early years at the Emirates, where he contributed 20 goals and 28 assists in 198 appearances between 2011 and 2017. His £35 million transfer to Liverpool brought Champions League success in 2019, but his momentum was halted by a serious ACL injury that disrupted his progress.

With his current market value estimated at around £1 million, the midfielder continues to attract interest from several clubs. MLS side Inter Miami and EFL outfits have reportedly expressed admiration, while summer links with Birmingham City and newly-promoted Leeds United failed to materialise.
Sky Sports pundits have also speculated that Oxlade-Chamberlain could reunite with former Arsenal teammate Jack Wilshere, now managing Luton Town. The Hatters currently sit 10th in League One with 19 points from 13 matches.
For now, the former England international’s focus remains on rebuilding his fitness and perhaps writing one final chapter in an already eventful career.
