Arsenal defender Marli Salmon has received a late callup to the England squad for the U17 World Cup.
Salmon had initially been part of the separate England U17 squad (comprised of younger players) who were involved in the European Championship qualifiers.
However, he was absent for today’s game against Sweden and has instead been drafted into the World Cup squad after replacing Tottenham’s Elijah Upson, who is injured.
Upson himself had replaced another Tottenham player in Jun’ai Byfield.
Salmon joins Arsenal goalkeeper Jack Porter in the squad for the tournament, with England getting their campaign underway tomorrow when they take on Venezuela.
