Arsenal are said to be scouting a holding midfielder who could have big potential.
Arsenal are said to be keeping an eye on a midfielder who is coming up the ranks for a current Conference League side. The Gunners have been on a spending tilt over the last few years, racking up huge spending totals to build a squad that is the envy of many clubs around Europe.
It has taken some missteps along the way, but Mikel Arteta now has a squad with incredible depth, able to chop and change while maintaining a very high standard, something he hasn’t been able to do in recent years, despite usually having a strong starting XI.
What Arsenal now need to do is recruit younger players at a better standard, with failed purchases like Fabio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga standing out. The Gunners could do with signing top young players for reduced prices to save paying fees of £60million or so, as they have been doing for some time.
As part of that, the Gunners are said to be keeping an eye on young talent around Europe and beyond, and according to Ekstrabladet, Arsenal are said to be interested in Hacken starlet Silas Andersen, who was previously a target for Nottingham Forest.
The Gunners are already said to have scouted the 21-year-old midfielder, and they are expected to watch him again when he and Hacken take on Strasbourg in the Conference League on Thursday night.
The youngster is said to have said recently when asked about a move to the Premier League: “The Premier League is the Premier League. It would be great to come.”
Andersen is a Denmark under-20s international, and he has been with Hacken since the summer, joining from utrecht and making 16 league appearances since. He is a defensive midfielder, and the notion would likely be that Andersen can replace fellow countryman Christian Norgaard in that supplementary holding midfield role.
Norgaard only signed in the summer, but at 31 years of age and with a contract until 2027, albeit Arsenal have the option of keeping him for a year beyond that.
