Arsenal and Tottenham are both keen on the same player, who has reportedly ‘decided to leave’ Real Madrid in the summer.
The Gunners will be heading into the January transfer window pretty happy with their current squad, as they are sat on top of the Premier League table, six points clear of Manchester City in second place.

Arsenal are also perfect after four games in the Champions League too, they won their most recent European clash 3-0 against Slavia Prague on Tuesday night, to take them to the joint-top of the ‘league phase’ table alongside Bayern Munich.
However, there is no doubt that if the right transfer opportunity arises in January, then Arsenal will jump on it and make the most of it, as they want to win as much as possible this season, which seems their best chance since Mikel Arteta took over.
Rodrygo hands Arsenal and Tottenham January chance
In the summer, countless reports suggested that Real Madrid winger Rodrygo was Arsenal’s ‘dream’ target in terms of a left-winger, amid reports that he could leave the La Liga club. The Brazilian has made 14 appearances in all competitions for Xabi Alonso’s side so far this season, scoring two goals, and providing one assist.
However, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Rodrygo has ‘decided to leave’ Real Madrid, and wants an exit in the January transfer window in order to get more regular minutes ahead of the World Cup at the end of the season.
The same report says that both Arsenal and Tottenham have positioned themselves as strong candidates to sign the 24-year-old in the January window.
Rodrygo could replace Trossard
The reports of a potential January move for Rodrygo comes as several other reports have suggested a potential January exit for Leandro Trossard, who was subject to interest from Germany and Turkey, alongside the Premier League.
Trossard has become a reliable option for Arteta, especially more recently amid injuries to Noni Madueke and Kai Havertz. However, if Arsenal had the chance to sign Rodrygo, they would surely consider moving on from the Belgian international.
The 30-year-old has made 13 appearances for Arsenal so far this season, scoring three goals, and providing four assists in all competitions.
