William Saliba has admitted he was tempted by the prospect of joining Real Madrid before committing his long-term future to Arsenal.
The 24-year old were heavily interested in recruiting the 24-year old French international, and wanted to make him one of the cornerstones of their backline for the next decade, alongside Dean Huijsen, who they signed from Bournemouth in the summer.
In the end, though, he decided that he had unfinished business with the Gunners, the club he supported as a boy, with whom he wants to win titles. His new deal runs until 2030, which has ended all speculation about his immediate future.
He will be hoping this is the season, where some of his dreams come true, with his side currently leading the Premier League and going well in the Champions League. Saliba, himself, is part of a defence that has just equalled a 122-year old club record for the most consecutive clean sheets.
