Arsenal have slapped a huge price tag on the head of Declan Rice in a bid to fend off interest from Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants have identified Rice as an ideal candidate to strengthen their midfield, as he has developed under Mikel Arteta into a complete box-to-box player, whilst his set piece delivery has elevated him to world-class status.
However, the Gunners, who paid West Ham ₤105 million for him, are determined not to let him go, with Arteta regarding him as an integral part of his project going forward.
Although he remains under contract until 2028, they have already begun preliminary discussions about a new deal for him.
And, in the meantime, Real, and any other suitors, have been informed it would take at least a bid of ₤132 million to consider parting with him, which would be a record for a British player.
Given the financial outlay this would involve, and how this might restrict their ability to make other signings, it is hoped this would be enough to deter Real exploring the move any further.
