Arsenal are sat top of the Premier League table as they look to win the title under Mikel Arteta

Arsenal drew 2-2 away at Sunderland on Saturday night at the Stadium of Light. Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard got their goals against the Black Cats in the North East. However, they weren’t able to hold on for a win and were forced to settle for a point.

Mikel Arteta’s side remain top of the Premier League table after their first 11 fixtures as they look to win the title. The Gunners are back in action after the international break with a home clash against Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium. They then play Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday 26th November.

Arsenal contract update regarding Bukayo Saka

Arsenal are ‘very close’ to a new contract agreement with Saka, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Gunners are poised to tie up a fresh deal for their star winger. He has been a key player for the London outfit over the past few years.

In this latest update regarding his situation, reporter Romano has said, as per GiveMeSport on YouTube: “To be honest, I think yes, because the conversation has been ongoing for months now. It already started at the beginning of the summer transfer window. Then obviously, Arsenal were busy with different things, and as people can imagine, for Bukayo, it's a really important contract, so it takes some time.

“And it doesn't mean that someone doesn't want to make it happen. It's just normal sometimes to prepare new contracts, to discuss details, to take some time before it's agreed with this kind of super big player, and also Arsenal have already extended Saliba and more players.”

He added: “So it's an important moment for the club, and to extend the contract of Bukayo Saka is something that is considered an absolute priority. So I think it will happen soon. Then the timing will also depend on the lawyers exchanging all the documents, on some small details they're trying to fix, but the general agreement is very close, and I think Bukayo Saka will sign a new contract at Arsenal quite soon.”

Arsenal in line for Bukayo Saka boost

Keeping hold of Saka for longer will be a massive boost for Arsenal. He has been on the books of the Gunners for his whole career to date and rose up through their academy ranks. The forward was a regular at various different youth levels as a youngster before breaking into the first-team.

The England international, who has 46 caps to his name, made his debut back in 2018 and hasn’t looked back since. He has made 277 appearances in all competitions and has scored 76 goals, six of which have come in this campaign. The London-born man’s current deal expires in 2027.

Arsenal will be disappointed that they weren’t able to pick up three points against Sunderland. They have been rock solid so far this term and have built themselves on strong foundations. Arteta will want to see a reaction in their next outing against rivals Spurs in a couple of weeks.
