Arsenal player nursing hip injury – Out of group training with national team

Riccardo Calafiori has played every Premier League game for Arsenal this season.

The defender emerged as a key player for Mikel Arteta, having put last season’s fitness worries largely behind him.

Given he was deemed fit enough, the Arsenal player was called up by Italy for the current international break. However, the left-back is nursing a hip injury.

Tuttomercatoweb report this has forced Calafiori to undergo individual training today. He remains with the Italy squad but is unlikely to feature in their upcoming game against Moldova.

TuttoSport have more, noting that the 23-year-old’s condition is improving. That’s why he’s expected to remain part of Rino Gattuso’s side rather than return to Arsenal.

There’s hope Calafiori can be available for the match against Norway.

Arsenal would obviously rather their player be wrapped in cotton-wool and no chances taken during the current international break. It’s a balance between what’s best for the Gunners, and what the defender and his country will want in the coming days.
