Newcastle Should Take Advantage Of Arsenal Situation And Sign England International In January

Newcastle United will be looking to strengthen their side in the January transfer window, especially in areas where they lack depth.

Eddie Howe’s side went into the international break in a disappointing 14th place in the Premier League, after a string of inconsistent performances. Their last game was a 3-1 defeat to Brentford, which saw Dan Burn sent off, which provided Howe with extra frustration.

It means that Burn won’t be available for their next game against Man City after the break, meaning they will need to rotate in defence. Full-back Tino Livramento may not be available either as he is still recovering from a knee injury.

The current issues are exposing Newcastle‘s lack of depth in defence, especially in the full-back positions, but they may have a solution which has emerged from North London, as an Arsenal player could be available in the January window.

Newcastle could sign Lewis-Skelly on loan

Myles Lewis-Skelly is reportedly a potential loan option in January, as Thomas Tuchel told the 18-year-old that he will only get into the World Cup squad for England, if he has more minutes. At the moment, he is playing behind Riccardo Calafiori at Arsenal, and so could move away for the rest of the season.

Newcastle could consider signing the Arsenal star, as he has proven that he is more than capable of performing well in the Premier League, not only that, but he was one of the best full-backs in the league last year, when Calafiori was injured.

If Howe were to go after Lewis-Skelly, it would benefit the player, as he would get more game time, but still Champions League football, it would benefit Newcastle, as it would give them some much-needed depth in defence, and it would benefit Arsenal as he would be getting more experience.

It seems a no-brainer for Newcastle and Arsenal to work out some sort of deal, and so it could be a story to keep an eye on as we get closer to the January transfer window.
