£35m Arsenal star suffers hip injury, ruled out of Thursday's game for his country

Arsenal have had a difficult time with injuries during the early part of the season.

The Gunners were without several key forwards during the recent 2-2 draw against Sunderland in the Premier League.

Among them, Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Noni Madueke could be fit after the international break.

However, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus may not return for another few weeks at least.

Arsenal have now suffered another injury scare with left-back Riccardo Calafiori nursing a hip issue, as per Ryan Taylor.

The £35 million-rated star has been training separately from his Italy team-mates in their training camp in Florence.

Calafiori is prioritising a return for the World Cup qualifier against Norway in Milan next week.

Calafiori needs to be handled with extra caution

The former Bologna man had an injury-plagued debut campaign with the Gunners last term, but he has turned around his fortunes

Calafiori has been an undisputed starter in the Premier League. He has played 863 out of a possible 990 minutes of regulation time.

The left-back has repaid manager Mikel Arteta’s trust with some stand-out displays, though he was not at his best against Sunderland.

The injury may have played a part, and hopefully, he can make a full recovery before the Gunners return to Premier League action.

If he is sidelined, one of Myles Lewis-Skelly or Piero Hincapie could get the nod at left-back for the north London derby this month.

Lewis-Skelly was considered the Champions League starter, but it changed last week as Hincapie got the nod over him in the role.

Hence, the Gunners graduate is no longer an assured deputy for Calafiori and faces fierce competition from Hincapie going forward.
