Napoli’s chief scout Maurizio Micheli is set to join Arsenal.
It brings his long association with the reigning Serie A champions to end, having first joined them from Brescia in 2010, before leaving to take up a position with Hella Verona. However, then returned to Napoli as chief scout in 2018. He was responsible for spotting the likes of Marek Hamsik, Kim Min-jae and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, all of whom Napoli subsequently signed.
And now he is set to link up with fellow Italian Andrea Berta, and will become one of his chief lieutenants.
This will be his first role outside Italy, but the prestige of Arsenal proved too strong for him to turn the job down when it was offered to him.
Micheli has developed a reputation as one of the leading talent-spotters in Italian football in recent years, and he is expected to bring his knowledge and extensive contact book with him to the Emirates.
