E17 Focus – Joshua Sesay

Welcome to a new series focusing specifically on the talented schoolboys at Arsenal who are currently at Hale End – those in the U16s and below. The academy is based in E17, Walthamstow. The second article is on Joshua Sesay.

Wingers are often amongst the most exciting players in the Arsenal academy and that certainly applies to Joshua Sesay.

Signed from Millwall’s youth setup early last season, Sesay is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder but has mainly operated out wide since joining Arsenal and is a threat on either flank.

A fast, skilful and direct player, Sesay has been a regular on the scoresheet for Arsenal at U16 level and has also featured for the U17s.

He suffered a minor setback with an injury earlier this season but bounced back in impressive style and was amongst the U16 squad to win the Premier League National Tournament last weekend.

Last season Sesay was selected for an England U15 training camp.

Sesay received his first callup to the Arsenal U18 squad when he was named on the bench against West Bromwich Albion in February.

It seems likely that he could make his debut for Adam Birchall’s team at some stage this season.

Whatever transpires, however, it is anticipated that he will be a key figure in the Arsenal U18 squad next season should he sign scholarship terms as expected.
