A honest opinion after Sunderland 2–2 Arsenal

With game week eleven over and done with a long trip to the North- East over – the mighty Arsenal escape the Stadium of Light with a point on the road. With all the media surrounding the club at the moment in terms of us being title contenders, social media influences and the mainstream media are quick in criticising and displaying the situation as the end of the world. As much as I personally am disappointing with the result at the weekend, I however do not think it is the case. Here are my thoughts on the situation:

Firstly, I would like to point out that going away to the stadium of light is no easy task, with Sunderland currently sitting at fourth place in the league (a sensational start for a newly promoted side), twelve of them home points coming from home fixtures being split between three wins and three draws at home, leaving them unbeaten. Clearly demonstrating the difficulty of that fixture. There is a real buzz around the north east side this season. With the new exciting attacking style of football, the promotion they gained into the Premier League and the arrival of new captain Granit Xhaka. All these exciting new variables taking place at Sunderland give the wildcards one formidable atmosphere at the Stadium of Light. Hence why I believe that the ‘two lost points’ opinion is being overplayed by certain influencers and main stream media source.

Brian Brobbey scoring in the 94th minute of the game, making the game 2-2 at full time, splitting the points between the two teams, leaves the Arsenal in a difficult place going into the international break. Arsenal being on such an impressive run of form mixed with the timing (being unfortunate due to it being just before the international break) makes the result seem way worse than it is. The boys must not let this get to them, particularly with a very hard run after the break – Tottenham at home, Bayern at home and then Chelsea away. These games are not just difficult games, they are also very important games. With Man City on our heels and with one more win pretty much guaranteeing automatic Champions League qualification. These games are vital.

So yes, overall, I am disappointed with the result at at the weekend, but I believe that it is being portrayed in a much worse light than it should be. With the Black Cats remaining unbeaten at home and us still fairly comfortable at the top of the table – it simply is not the end of the world!
