A rainy Wembley going through the motions : Picture by @YTJourno
**England (1) 2** Saka 28, Eze 90
**How the game panned out:** With England already qualified, the lack of any real devil in their play was understandable. Serbia had only an outside chance of qualification if they finished second in the group but they lacked the tools to do any harm.
England were sloppy in attack but won with ease, even if they only carved out a modicum of chances. In the end, two superb finishes from Arsenal players settled it - Bukayo Saka volleying home in the first half and Eberechi Eze sweeping in a lovely curling effort as the game entered its death throes.
**Main talking point:** How many paper planes could the fans ldnd in the pitch? So little on the pitch seemed to really matter - though there was the academic quirk about whether England could carry on their 100 per cent qualification record without conceding. A clean sheet win in Albania in the final group game at the weekend will decide whether the perfect record has been achieved.
**Who was great, who disappointed:** With Declan Rice once again imperious, the three Gunners were a big part of what was a relatively untroubled, routine victory. Everyone was competent, without needing to be outstanding.
**How did the other London boys get on?** Reece James (Chelsea) was not given too tough a night at right back, Jordan Henderson (Brentford) came on gorgeous Rice just past the hour and helped maintain the solid grip on proceedings Thomas Tuchel's men established in terms of possession and territory. Adam Wharton (Palace) was only given the final few minutes, so had little chance to impress.
**The bigger picture:** England will have a few friendlies next year before they head west for the summer World Cup. Tuchel probably already has an ideal XI in mind for the crunch games to come but is pragmatic enough to be mindful of form as well as the shape of the team. At present, Jude Bellingham is not an automatic choice and Cole Palmer has work to do to get back in the reckoning - assuming he overcomes injury concerns.
**England team**: (4-2-3-1) Pickford - James, Stones, Konsa, O'Reilly - Anderson (Eharton 85), Rice (Henderson 65) - Saka, Rogers (Bellingham 65), Rashford (Eze 65) - Kane (Foden 65)
