Arsenal player flies out to assist national team despite knee injury – ‘Aura’ appreciated

Martin Odegaard hasn’t featured for Arsenal in the last four Premier League games.

The midfielder is nursing a knee injury but his presence has been welcomed by the Norway national side.

They picked up a 4-1 win over Estonia on Thursday, sealing a spot at the FIFA World Cup. Odegaard flew over yesterday and was present in the stands, even speaking to the team at half-time.

Dagbladet report the 26-year-old flew in from London on Thursday afternoon. He did this to provide motivation to his teammates, also staying at the same hotel as them.

Sander Berge spoke to Dagbladet about what the Arsenal man told his teammates at half-time.

“There were some tactical things about how you can do it. We had to try to put the ball a little more on the line. Try to create an imbalance. Sometimes you have to lose the ball then they crack a little.”

Morten Thorsby said the midfielder’s presence gave Norway strength in the game.

“Martin is our captain. It gives us security and strength. We wanted him with us.

“We are very happy about this. Even though he couldn’t help us on the pitch, he did off the pitch.”

Norway manager Stale Solbakken also had praise for the Arsenal player and his efforts. The 57-year-old revealed the national team reached an agreement with the Gunners to let Odegaard fly to the game.

“He was there both before, during and after. There is always an aura with Martin. He is our captain. I am glad we got that deal with Arsenal.”

The Gunners are looking to win the Premier League for the first time in over 20 years. A fully fit Odegaard – and his aura – will be key for Mikel Arteta’s side.
