England beat Serbia 2-0 on Thursday night in their latest World Cup qualifying game. Arsenal pair Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze got their goals at Wembley. Thomas Tuchel’s side played in front of an attendance of 74,289.
The Three Lions are unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions. They are back in action on Sunday as they aim to keep their momentum going for as long as possible. An away trip to Albania lies in store and Tuchel has the chance to rotate his starting XI and freshen up his side for that one if needed.
English media hails Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze
Arsenal winger Saka got on the scoresheet for England against Serbia with an impressive volley. The 24-year-old has found the net on six occasions for the Gunners so far this season. He is also in line for a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Sky Sports were impressed by his most recent performance for the Three Lions and delivered this verdict “Thomas Tuchel told him he should be scoring more goals and in typical Saka fashion, he listened, took the words on board and delivered an answer. Saka doesn't need a lot of the ball to make a big impact and this performance proved it.
“Even on a night when the Arsenal man wasn't as involved as he should have been, every touch carried danger, every burst of acceleration felt loaded with purpose and pace. And of course, the goal was a fantastic execution of skill - something he made look very easy. 7/10.”
Arsenal playmaker Eze also found the net against Serbia after coming off the bench for Barcelona loan man Marcus Rashford. The Gunners landed him in the last transfer window from Crystal Palace. He has since adapted well to life under Mikel Arteta and continues to find his feet in his new surroundings.
The Independent had this to say about his display: “Had one or two bright moments off the bench including a stabbed shot which was saved on to the bar, before a wonderful first-time curling finish into the top corner to kill off the game. 8/10.”
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice also shines for England
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice was named in Tuchel’s team against Serbia. He put in a solid showing and proved why he is so crucial to England’s long-term plans. He got up and down the pitch and got involved in attacks when needed. The ex-West Ham man has helped the Gunners rise to the top of the Premier League table under Arteta.
He stood out to ESPN and they assessed him: “You can tell Rice plays for the side leading the Premier league's set-piece revolution. His deliveries were a standout in a sluggish first-half and led to the opening goal after Serbia's goalkeeper failed to clear his lines. He put another perfect delivery in just before half-time with Harry Kane heading wide. As ever he was involved going forward as he continues to cement himself as the key cog in England's midfield. 7/10.”
