Manchester United's Matheus Cunha has jokingly dismissed the idea of a future transfer to Arsenal. The versatile forward opted against moves to other Premier League clubs in order to become Ruben Amorim's first summer signing in a £62.5million deal from Wolves.
Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens later joined Cunha as new recruits for the 2025/26 season and beyond with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Andre Onana among those to depart. Cunha had a tough start at Old Trafford due to injury, but he has bounced back well.
The 26-year-old opened the scoring in the 4-2 victory over Brighton with his first goal for United. He had put in an unselfish performance as a false nine in the impressive 2-1 win at Liverpool the previous week, a role he also played in last weekend's draw with Tottenham.
Mbeumo, who bagged his fifth goal of the season in that match, has been more consistent in front of goal but Cunha's impact cannot be overlooked, as evidenced by him regaining his place in the starting XI ahead of Mason Mount.
There were several interested parties for both players, but Cunha's early summer move and Mbeumo's decision to wait for United shows that the pair only had eyes for Old Trafford. Arsenal were one of the clubs linked with Cunha throughout 2025, but Mikel Arteta and his team sought attacking reinforcements elsewhere.
Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres all signed for the Gunners, with Cunha now seemingly ruling out any future move to the Emirates Stadium.
The Brazilian sensation was asked by a supporter if he would ever contemplate signing for Arsenal, to which Cunha responded with laughter. His reaction was captured and shared on TikTok by @ttflake.
Brazil are gearing up for friendly matches against Senegal and Tunisia in the upcoming days, with several United players already representing their respective nations and enduring tough evenings.
Bryan Mbeumo endured a particularly heart-breaking one as Cameroon's defeat to DR Congo means they won't be competing in next summer's World Cup.
Portugal's place at next summer's World Cup is still uncertain following a 2-0 loss to Ireland. Diogo Dalot participated in the entire match while Bruno Fernandes was suspended. Cristiano Ronaldo also received a red card for elbowing Ipswich Town's Dara O'Shea.
