The Premier League table is beginning to take shape in the 2025/26 season. Teams are jostling for position at the top of the table – and those in trouble of relegation are starting to look over their shoulder.
Today, we’ll be looking at five teams who are in the most danger of relegation this season and evaluate their chances of survival. Who will beat the drop this year?
Leeds United
Before a ball was kicked, out of the three promoted teams, people generally believed that Leeds United would have the best chance of staying up this season. However, it hasn’t quite transpired like that.
Leeds currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, just a point above the relegation zone. Additionally, the Whites have won just one of their last six league games.
Their exploits in the January transfer window were commended, but they didn’t make any signings that have truly stood out – in particular, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has fallen short of the expected standards.
Burnley
Burnley started strongly this season, but have struggled to maintain any semblance of consistent form. They are, however, managing to pick up vital wins here and there.
Nevertheless, the Clarets are out of the relegation zone purely on goal difference. They will need to stop dropping points unnecessarily, especially as the two teams below them begin to gain traction.
Burnley came up with a good squad, containing excellent players such as Maxime Esteve and Josh Cullen – additionally, they also made some smart signings in the summer. It’ll be a bumpy ride, but they have everything they need to ensure their survival this season.
West Ham United
Under Graham Potter, West Ham United looked like a sinking ship. Tootheless up front and hopelessly leaky at the back, the Hammers barely stumbled out of the traps early on.
Now, with Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm, they have looked like a much more cohesive and effective outfit. There are still issues – for example, their backline will need reinforcements in January – but the improvements are truly night and day.
West Ham have some quality players in their team, with Jarrod Bowen, Mateus Fernandes and Lucas Paqueta all standing out. If Santo can maintain his new-manager honeymoon at the Olympic Stadium, there is no reason as to why West Ham cannot stay up this year.
Nottingham Forest
There is never a dull day at Nottingham Forest – sadly, this is usually for all the wrong reasons. They have already churned their way through two managers this season, though the arrival of Sean Dyche has given them some much-needed stability.
The appointment of Ange Postecoglou was an unmitigated disaster. The Trees could not adapt to his style of management – and volatile owner Evangelos Marinakis was had little patience with the former Tottenham Hotspur boss.
Despite this, they are now picking up after a dismal start to the campaign. They have won four points in their last two games – but the damage may have already been done.
Wolves
After a few seasons of skirting around the relegation zone, Wolves’ number finally appears to be up this season. After 11 games, they have won just two points – not only are they winless, they are also the league’s lowest scorers and highest conceders.
It remains to be seen if Rob Edwards can change their fortunes, but he has a monumental job on his hands if he wants to keep them up – they are already eight points adrift.
They made a couple of decent signings in the summer, but they did little to offset the departures of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri. There is still plenty of time to go, but Wolves look like a doomed outfit at the moment.
