Mikel Arteta had reportedly blocked the exit of Gabriel Jesus in January but the player is still thinking of his long term plans.
Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus has spoken out about the future of his career amid transfer speculation that he could push for a move away from the Emirates Stadium come January.
The striker hasn’t played for the Gunners since picking up an ACL injury in January but the hope is that the forward could return to first team action in December. However, following the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres, Jesus has fallen down the pecking order in north London.
Mikel Arteta also has Kai Havertz and Mikel Merino who he can deploy to lead the line for Arsenal. With the World Cup next summer, Jesus is keen to prioritise minutes and ensure that he has a place in the Brazil squad.
Gabriel Jesus speaks out on future
For that reason, Jesus has been linked with a move to Everton and West Ham, although it’s thought that Arteta is reluctant to see the player leave to ensure he keeps strength in depth. Jesus’ contract does not expire until 2027 and now the player has opened up on his long term career goals.
Via the Daily Mail, he said: “I've never had contact with another club, and my desire, as I say, is to return to Palmeiras, and Palmeiras' desire is for me to return to Palmeiras.
“When I feel it's time to return to Palmeiras, I'll decide that with Arsenal, but we're talking about a player who's been out for nine months and is now fighting to get back into the team, and there are journalists who are talking without any basis whatsoever.”
Jesus is a product of the Palmeiras academy and spent two seasons in the first team prior to his big move to Manchester City. The striker moved to Arsenal in 2022 and has 26 goals in 96 appearances for the club.
Arsenal teenager set for England fast track
Meanwhile, Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman could be set for a major England promotion as he continues to enjoy a breakthrough campaign in the capital. The 15-year-old became the second youngest Premier League player ever on his debut and broke the age record in the Champions League too.
England under-21 head coach Lee Carsley has spoken about the player’s progress and admitted that he is someone who could be fast tracked through the Three Lions set up. He said: “He's a player that we're monitoring. Sometimes that talent, we have to accelerate it so quickly because of the challenge they are getting at their clubs.
“It's important that we keep in mind how young Max is and we are fully aware of him. We get all of the feedback from the camps that he plays on and there is definitely time. He'll definitely get his chance within the Under-21s.”
