Victor Ozhianvuna will not officially become an Arsenal player until January 2027 but there have already been some encouraging signs regarding what he is capable of.
The 16-year-old, who can play in midfield or out wide, is currently representing Republic of Ireland at the U17 World Cup.
Having initially featured as a substitute, Ozhianvuna has now worked his way into the starting lineup and was involved yesterday as his nation took on Canada.
Following a 1-1 draw, the game went to penalties and the future Arsenal signing made no mistake as he dispatched his spot kick.
Republic of Ireland are now through to the last-16 stage of the competition, where they will take on Switzerland.
If they continue to progress it’s possible that Ozhianvuna could eventually face Arsenal goalkeeper Jack Porter, who has featured prominently for England at the tournament.
Defender Marli Salmon was a late callup to the England squad but has yet to play so far.
Ozhianvuna, meanwhile, is gaining plenty of experience which will undoubtedly benefit him by the time his move to Arsenal takes place.
He has already been capped at U18 level by Ireland and has made 16 senior appearances for Shamrock Rovers, scoring once.
It remains to be seen how Ozhianvuna will be used initially at Arsenal following his arrival in terms of involvement with the first-team, playing some games at youth level or going out on loan.
However, he is certainly a very exciting prospect for the future.
