Gabriel had started for the five-time World Cup winners in their friendly victory at the Emirates Stadium.

However, his afternoon would last just 64 minutes before he limped off in the second half.

After appearing to feel some discomfort, Gabriel went to the ground as play was stopped.

Having received treatment from the Brazil medical staff, he trudged off the pitch and was replaced by Roma's Wesley.

The 27-year-old had been making his 17th appearance for the national team at the home of his club side.

Fortunately for Brazil, they were able to hold on to their 2-0 lead after Gabriel was taken off, with Spurs' Pape Matar Sarr also having to be replaced due to injury.

First half goals from Estevao and Casemiro proved to be the difference between the two sides.

The severity of Gabriel's injury is not yet known with Carlo Ancelotti's side in action again on Tuesday.

Brazil are scheduled to face Tunisia in Lille having already secured their spot at next summer's World Cup.

The Selecao came through South American qualifying with ease, clinching their place in the draw back in June.

As for Arsenal, Mikel Arteta now faces a nervous wait over Gabriel's fitness.

His defender has so far played every minute in the Premier League for the Gunners this season.

Meanwhile, he has conceded just five goals and kept 13 clean sheets in 17 matches across all competitions.

Arsenal face Tottenham at home in the north London derby in their next match on November 23.

The Gunners go into the match four points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Arteta is also sweating on the fitness of fellow defender Riccardo Calafiori.

The Italian has returned to the club early from international duty amid injury fears.

It comes with Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus already ruled out of the clash with Spurs.

The latter is back in training following a torn ACL, but remains weeks away from returning to competitive action.

Arteta is hoping to welcome back a quartet of previously sidelined players, though.
