Senne Lammens immediately showed something at Man Utd‘that was a surprise’even for Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim has admitted that it caught him a “little bit” by “surprise” over something that he noticed from Manchester United summer signing Senne Lammens.

Senne Lammens has firmly established himself as the new Manchester United No 1 after Andre Onana was loaned out to Super Lig club Trabzonspor in September.

“What’s the price? 20 million Euros, that tells me he’s not a top goalkeeper.”

United made a deadline-day move for Lammens and the Red Devils brought the 23-year-old Belgian to Old Trafford from Royal Antwerp for an initial fee of £18.1m.

Lammens was forced to wait to make his debut for the Red Devils after Ruben Amorim stuck with Altay Bayindir after the signing of the former Royal Antwerp star.

However, the Red Devils summer signing finally made his first appearance for the Premier League club in October in United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford.

The Belgium international has kept one clean sheet for the Red Devils, which came in Lammens’ United debut against Sunderland before the October break.

Speaking to Stadium Astro, United manager Ruben Amorim has said that Lammens’ immediate confidence as the club’s No 1 caught his eye for all the right reasons.

Ruben Amorim is excited about Senne Lammens

He can kick long balls with a lot of quality with both feet, and that is a detail that can change the way we play the game.

“Yeah, of course, we do our diligence when we are going to buy players,” he said.

“But as I said it already, it was a surprise, all the pressure that we suffer[ed] with the goalkeeper position to arrive here and to show that confidence.

“To transmit that confidence to the team, I think, was a little bit of a surprise for me.

“I’m not going to say everyone, but I’m talking as a manager, I have no problem to say that was a surprise for me.”

United fans have finally breathed a sigh of relief by putting behind the error-prone performances of Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana in recent seasons.

Onana’s ill-fated spell at United is all but over with Lammens’ arrival at the club and Bayindir continues to play a distant second fiddle to the Belgian shot-stopper.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave Ruben Amorim his support

Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be.

Despite only keeping one clean sheet for United in his last five matches, Lammens’ performances have been steady overall and his confidence is only growing.

Sir Alex Ferguson recently praised Lammens for his immediate impact at Old Trafford and the United legend’s assessment speaks volumes about the player.

Lammens’ ability to command his area and to confidently come out and collect the ball are welcome signs for Amorim, United players and Red Devils supporters.
