Manager now admits he's going to try and get Antoine Semenyo to sign for Man Utd this January

Antoine Semenyo is being linked with a move away from Bournemouth in January as one of the winger’s former managers tries to convince him to sign for Manchester United.

The 2025/26 season has seen Antoine Semenyo establish himself as one of the best players in the Premier League, after being linked with a summer move to Manchester United.

Semenyo remains a United target even though Ruben Amorim opted to sign Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha instead of the Ghana international.

Bournemouth don’t want to lose its star player mid-season, but Semenyo has a release clause in his contract, which has led to constant speculation after his bright start to the campaign under Andoni Iraola.

Now, one of Semenyo’s former managers has admitted he will try to convince the 25-year-old to sign for United over their Premier League rivals.

Dean Holden wants Antoine Semenyo at Man Utd

Semenyo signed for Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023 before establishing himself as a Premier League star.

His career at Bristol City was a success story after coming through the academy and becoming a highly effective attacking player.

Former Bristol City manager Dean Holden has revealed that he is still in contact with Semenyo. He also admits that he will try to influence his decision to leave Bournemouth when the opportunity arises, with a clear preference to see the speedy winger at Old Trafford.

“We still speak quite a lot, so I’ll certainly be trying to pull him towards a Man United direction, because obviously as a kid, supporting Man United, I would love to see him there,” Holden told The Athletic FC podcast.

“I think he’s a player that could play for Man United. I think for Antoine, he has to look where he’s going to go and win trophies.

“Where’s he going to go and win the most trophies? And for me, I’d go and play under Pep Guardiola. If I could go back and put my boots on, I’d be playing under Pep.”

On the same podcast, David Ornstein named three Premier League clubs leading the race for Semenyo, but United were not included.

United’s priority in 2026 should be signing a central midfielder to eventually replace Casemiro, though it would be understandable if they took the opportunity to sign Semenyo in a cut-price deal.

If Semenyo joined United, he would become the first Ghana international to play for United.

Should Man Utd pay Antoine Semenyo’s £65m release clause in January?

The England-born star made his debut for the Ghana senior national team in June 2022, in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Madagascar.

Semenyo earned a call-up to his first World Cup in 2022, which came as a significant achievement for the young star.

A move to United would see him join Amad, Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui in the dressing room’s African contingent.
