Benjamin Sesko and Harry Maguire have been ruled out of Manchester United's game against Everton due to injury, but Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo could return to the squad.

Sesko picked up a knee injury against Tottenham before the international break. He was introduced from the bench in the 58th minute in London but he lasted just half an hour.

The 22-year-old was forced to withdraw from international duty with Slovenia and underwent scans at Carrington during the break, which confirmed the injury was not a major issue.

Amorim was asked to provide an update on Sesko's injury during his press conference on Friday, and he said: "He is going to stay a few weeks out. I don’t know how long, but it’s not that serious. We have to be careful with him. He is going to recover and he is feeling better."

In terms of other team news he added: "Maguire is not ready, Kobbie did not train today, but I think tomorrow we could see Kobbie, so we’ll see. Licha is coming close to be ready to play. Of course, we need to be careful with his first minutes, but he's clearly in a better position than two weeks ago."

United signed Sesko for €76.5million (£66.4m) plus €8.5m (£7.3m) in add-ons in the summer. He started on the bench for the opening three Premier League games of the season before making his debut against Manchester City in September and notched his first goal against Brentford.

Sesko built on that by scoring against Sunderland to secure a 2-0 victory last month, but he has not scored since and Amorim has said it was a "fact" that he has "struggled a little bit".

Martinez returned to full training earlier in the month, but United were reluctant to rush him back into action, so he was left out the squads against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham.

The defender joined up with Argentina's national team during the international break. Martinez did not partake in games and a member of United’s performance team supported him.

Speaking about Martinez potentially playing in midfield, Amorim said: "I can think a smart, intelligent football player can play in a lot of positions, but it is not the position for him. In an emergency, he can play."

Mainoo was absent against Tottenham due to a knock picked up during training, but he could be available to face Everton on Monday night. Jack Fletcher was drafted into the squad against Spurs, and his inclusion continued United's 88-year record of featuring an academy graduate in every matchday squad.

Mainoo has not started in the Premier League this season. The midfielder's only start of the campaign came against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park in the Carabao Cup second round.

The 20-year-old requested to leave on loan in the summer transfer window for the sake of regular minutes, but Amorim blocked the request and explained that Mainoo was competing with Bruno Fernandes.
