Amorim acknowledges Man United play with ‘more control’ and ‘more competitive’ attitude

Ruben Amorim reflected on a year of progress for Man United.

The head coach came into the dugout last November, and his debut was a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Now, an encounter against **Everton**will mark a year for the Portuguese, and he is embarking on the team’s longest unbeaten run under his leadership, spanning a five game streak.

There have been trials and tribulations along the way as the Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League last season and lost the Europa League final. However, the side seem to be making steps forward, and Amorim wishes to drive more development through raising the standards for the squad.

*“There was everything really fast. The first thinking was like the first game, the environment is completely different of Premier League, and I was excited with that.*

“Right away, I knew that we struggle in some things, but was that feeling of, yes, it’s the best league in the world, it’s maybe the best club in the world, but at the same time, it’s a big job and it’s going to require a lot of work.

“I think we are showing [improvement]. But the important thing is that doesn’t matter what we did in the recent games. We cannot forget that we start in that point.

“We suffered a lot last year, so we have to take that into account and to play every game like it’s the last one or the first one. But of course, if you ask me, I expect a team with more control, more dominance, playing a better football. The most important thing, more competitive in every way.”

*“In our league, it doesn’t matter. The table, it doesn’t matter. Everything is so tight that is irrelevant. If you know the history of our team, you never know where is the difficult game. That is completely relevant in Premier League.”*
