Arsenal reportedly want to sign one of Man United’s former players, who has been linked with a Premier League return.

Manchester United are heading into the weekend with a chance to climb up to third in the Premier League table if they manage to beat Everton and other results go their way.

The Red Devils are also unbeaten in five games, so they will be confident that they can keep their streak going to further boost their chances of securing Champions League football.

The Red Devils’ biggest issue at the moment is that they are crying out for a number six, and could do with a holding midfielder who can play alongside Bruno Fernandes long-term. Casemiro has been playing the role, but he is 33, and his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

However, United had a player who could play this role very well in recent years, but they decided to sell him. Reports now claim that Premier League rivals Arsenal could make a shock move for him, which would really shake up some United fans.

Arsenal tipped to sign Scott McTominay

However, according to TeamTalk’s sources, McTominay could return to the Premier League, and Arsenal and Tottenham have ‘sounded out’ his camp to work out whether a deal could be possible, and whether McTominay would want to return to the Premier League.

The report says that one of the sources suggests an “astronomical” bid would be necessary to tempt the midfielder away from Napoli, and for Antonio Conte to be willing to let him leave the club. It says that any bid of less than £70.5m would be laughed out of the boardroom based on his current form.

Man United named as keen on McTominay reunion

The same report also mentions Manchester United as a potential candidate to be the Scottish midfielder’s next club. It says that the Red Devils have also ‘sounded out’ his camp, and could consider a move to bring McTominay back to Old Trafford, in what would be a shocking piece of business.

Imagine that the Red Devils do want to bring him back, consider what they would have done. They sold the midfielder for £26.4m in the summer of 2024, and so, imagine United paying over £70m for him after selling him for less than £30m. It would hand United a loss of over £44m, which would be a poor piece of business from United.

McTominay came through the academy at Old Trafford. He ended up making over 250 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 29 goals, and providing eight assists. He also won an FA Cup and a Carabao Cup during his time at Man United.
