Andre Onana has‘already left his mark’at Trabzonspor, Turkish press comment on Man Utd loanee

Manchester United loanee Andre Onana is on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor.

Andre Onana’s spell at Manchester United came to an end earlier this season, after his disaster against Grimsby in the Carabao Cup.

Onana’s woeful performance led to United buying Senne Lammens days later, and subsequently sending the former Inter Milan star out on loan.

United agreed a deal with Turkish club Trabzonspor on a season long loan, and the Red Devils will seek a permanent exit next summer.

Trabzonspor would like to keep Onana permanently, but financially it may be a difficult deal for them to do.

Andre Onana earns plaudits

It is unknown if Andre Onana sees his long-term future in Turkey. He moved there because he had little choice, with Manchester United deciding to loan him out after most European transfer windows had closed.

So this could be a ‘one and done’ year for Onana in Turkey.

Even if that is the case, Onana is making a good impression on the pitch with three clean sheets in eight appearances, with Trabzonspor ranked third in the league.

Behind the scenes, Onana is claimed to be making an even bigger impression, with the time he is spending working with the club’s younger goalkeepers.

Turkish outlet Taka Gazete reports: “Having made his mark in the Super Lig with the Claret-Blues, Onana is also making a significant contribution to the development of the team’s young goalkeepers.”

The report names Onuralp Çevikkan, Ahmet Doğan Yıldırım, and Erol Can Çolak as the trio who have benefitted from time on the training pitch with Onana.

The report adds that the Manchester United loanee’s impact goes beyond this.

“Onana, who established excellent communication with the young goalkeepers, has already made a mark at Trabzonspor with his commitment to the team, his passion, and his communication skills.”

World Cup exit can speed up Onana exit

Manchester United have moved on from Onana, one of Erik ten Hag’s signings, who made a succession of errors during his time at the club.

If he can keep on playing relatively well for Trabzonspor, it will help his cause to land a permanent move away from Old Trafford.

Onana’s Cameroon failed to qualify for the World Cup last week, losing a decisive playoff semi-final to DR Congo.

This can help speed up his exit from Manchester United next summer, as he won’t have the distraction of flying out to the tournament in the USA.
