Man Utd could sign one of the only players outperforming Bryan Mbeumo this season, it’s so tempting

Manchester United’s summer transfer business has been credited with helping the team propel up the Premier League table.

After last season’s disastrous 15th placed finish, Manchester United have improved to currently sit seventh in the table, just two points back from third place.

One of the key factors in this improvement has been the club’s summer signings, led by Premier League Player of the Month, Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo has struck six goals in all competitions so far, showing that Manchester United appear to have struck gold with his signature.

And now there is an opportunity to do it all over again.

Antoine Semenyo can repeat Bryan Mbeumo success

It has been revealed that Antoine Semenyo has a £65 million release clause in the January transfer window, via The Mail.

United are considering paying the clause, with long-standing interest in the winger, which dates back to 2018.

Semenyo is a player United strongly considered last summer too, and have retained interest despite moves for Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Part of the attraction is Semenyo’s versatility, which means he can even play at the left wing-back position.

This season, Semenyo is putting up rare numbers. He is managing to be even more productive than Bryan Mbeumo, matching his goal output and delivering two more assists.

Semenyo move would be further statement from United

Ruben Amorim and Ineos decided to pursue a policy of snapping up players with proven Premier League experience to lift the floor of the team.

Mbeumo and Cunha have instantly helped, following a strategy Sir Alex Ferguson once adopted, with successful moves for the likes of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke.

United went away from this in recent years, and missed out on Sadio Mane in 2015 when he was available from Southampton.

Semenyo is demonstrating that he is a proven, consistent performer, and his £65 million release clause is very tempting. If United could secure a move, it would be a major statement.

Should Man Utd pay Antoine Semenyo’s £65m release clause in January?

Semenyo represents Ghana at international level, but they failed to qualify for the African Cup of Nations, so there is no complication there for January.

Many fans feel that central midfield should be the key priority position to strengthen in the January transfer window.

However, there is a strong chance that top targets Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton will all not be available in January.

Semenyo is in a unique position that he is available due to his release clause. Rather than overpay for a midfielder, or settle for a second rate option, there will be a clear temptation to snap up the Bournemouth star, and address midfield in the summer.
