Manchester United man backed after viral moment–Situation blown out of proportion

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has been defended for congratulating former teammate Scott McTominay this week.

[Tipsbladet cover comments from Viaplay](https://www.tipsbladet.dk/nyhed/landshold/vaekker-opsigt-det-er-sgu-go-stil-hoejlund) expert Tommy Bechmann. He’s fighting back against criticism of the Napoli man.

Hojlund has found himself in the firing line this week after Scotland beat Denmark on Tuesday. They were 4-2 winners in the crucial World Cup qualifier, with McTominay kicking things off in the third minute with a superb overhead kick.

Hojlund levelled the scores in the 57th minute before a superb second half that saw Scotland score two world-class goals in added time to secure qualification.

It was a huge moment for the Scots that was celebrated wildly after the final whistle. Denmark, meanwhile, were faced with disappointment. They’re set to take on North Macedonia in the play-offs instead.

Hojlund made headlines after the game when he commented ‘congrats, mate. Well done’ on McTominay’s post on social media. They of course, played together at Manchester United and are now teammates at Napoli as well.

The comment went viral and saw plenty of criticism heading the striker’s way, particularly in Denmark. Bechmann thinks that’s unfair though.

“I really think that’s really good style,” he said.

“Now you have to understand that during the match I don’t think Rasmus Højlund and Scott McTominay are running around joking and having fun, but they can probably do that behind the scenes.

“And that’s not to say that it was five minutes after the final whistle. Because I was convinced that Højlund was annoyed and tired of it all.

“But when you’re on the plane on the way home, you might as well congratulate your teammate and really good friend after a slightly unnatural goal.”
