Manchester United's potential business next summer will be impacted by where they finish in the Premier League this term

The Red Devils had a rocky start to the campaign but have won three and drawn two of their last five Premier League outings to sit on 18 points from 11 games. Up next is the visit of Everton on Monday night.

Come 10pm on Monday, United could well be sat inside the top four with around one third of the season completed. It is a far cry from where they were 12 months ago with the mood around Old Trafford massively improved since mid-September.

As things stand, they are just one point behind fourth-placed Sunderland. Only three points separate Chelsea in third and Crystal Palace in 10th - in what looks set to be a competitive battle for the Champions League spots.

United’s summer business in 2026 could be defined by their league position after 38 games and one striker could well be tempted to move to Old Trafford if they can offer Champions League football.

It might have seemed like a completely unrealistic transfer just a matter of months ago but if United can continue to improve under Amorim and clinch a top-four spot - then Old Trafford becomes a more attractive destination once again

United have looked at signing proven Premier League players with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo settling in nicely at the club after their respective moves. Kane is not getting any younger and might still have one eye on Alan Shearer’s Premier League record.

He is 47 goals behind it. So far this season, only Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City have scored more goals than United. Kane would get chances in Amorim’s system and he is set to be available for £57m next summer due to a release clause in his Bayern Munich contract.

The England captain scored 280 goals and provided 63 assists in 435 games for Spurs while with Bayern Munich he has scored 108 goals and provided 29 assists in just 113 outings. It equals to 480 goal involvements in 548 matches - which is not far off a goal involvement every game.

Barcelona are said to be interested in him. Kane will be 33 at the start of the 2026-27 campaign so signing him would be seen as a short-term solution. It also means that Benjamin Sesko’s long-term future at United would not suffer as he could learn off Kane before then taking over as the main striker in a couple of seasons.

"What Harry Kane has produced here in the last year or two is absolutely top-notch," said Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness of Kane.

"And what I like best about him: In the beginning, he was a goal scorer who played in his box, who waited for the balls to come. But today he's long since become a playmaker, he's a finisher, and above all, he's a player with a personality who inspires others on the pitch, who sets the direction, and that's exactly what we were looking for."
