Manchester United target Antoine Semenyo can play left wing-back says his personal coach

While United love the idea of signing Semenyo, the obvious position for him in the team as a 10 isn’t available.

It was claimed by Ben Jacobs that Semenyo wasn’t keen on playing wing-back at United, but now the journalist has spoken on the Highbury Squad, revealing that the Ghanaian forward’s personal coach disputes that.

“There’s no reason why Semenyo can’t be a left-winger instead of a right-winger, because he’s equally adept at both”, Jacobs explained.

“I did an interview with Saul Isaksson-Hurst, who’s the personal coach of Semenyo, and he told me only today that he can even play as a left-wing back if he needs to.”

Semenyo is, in fact, tailor-made for the wing-back role under Amorim. This is because Amorim likes having wingers as wing-backs, such as with Amad on the right, and so Semenyo on the left would make complete sense.

Antoine Semenyo has an excellent record as a left winger-back

If United are targeting Semenyo, it will be important to sell the project to him and make it clear that Amorim’s wing-backs are not the typical back-five wing-backs that many think of.

Instead, the wing-backs under Amorim are effectively wingers who start phases of play deeper, and in these roles, Semenyo has an excellent winger.

Playing left midfield for Bournemouth, Semenyo has played eight games, scoring three and assisting four from the position.

It might not be entirely the same, but similar areas of the pitch, and he has been immense, which should showcase that he would shine in Amorim’s system as a wing-back.
