Matheus Cunha has reportedly suffered an accident in training for Manchester United. The Brazilian forward had returned to his club to link up with Ruben Amorim and his team-mates ahead of United's clash with Everton on Monday evening.
But it has now emerged that Cunha has suffered an accident on the training ground. The 26-year-old was due to switch on the Christmas lights in Altrincham on Saturday evening.
However, VisitAltrincham announced that the player would no longer be attending due to 'medical reasons.' The organisation posted on Instagram: "Unfortunately, Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight's Christmas Lights Switch on in Altrincham due to medical reasons."
The club have yet to issue a statement. This development comes as the majority of the Manchester United squad made their way back to Carrington this week following a fortnight-long international break for the concluding World Cup qualifying fixtures, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Several key players missed the opening session of training, however, including Benjamin Sesko, Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo - all of whom are nursing various injuries. The news comes as United aim to improve their Premier League position when they welcome a revitalised Toffees outfit under David Moyes' guidance on Monday.
The Red Devils are heading into the match with an impressive unbeaten streak in their last five games, thanks to victories over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton, as well as draws against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham.
Currently, they're sitting comfortably at 10th place in the Premier League table after 11 matches, just eight points behind league leaders, Arsenal. However, Amorim has a few injury concerns to deal with ahead of his team's clash with Everton on Monday evening.
Sesko suffered a knee injury during United's game against Spurs before the international break, and he's not expected to be back until December. Maguire also had to be substituted during the same match due to a hamstring problem, with Amorim confessing that he "is not ready" for the upcoming game.
Mainoo, on the other hand, missed the Reds' match against Spurs entirely due to an injury, but there's a chance he could make an appearance at the Theatre of Dreams on Monday, depending on his recovery. In other news, Lisandro Martinez might finally make his much-anticipated return to Premier League action against the Toffees.

The Argentinian defender has been out of action since February due to an ACL injury, but reports suggest he's close to regaining full fitness. The 27-year-old was back in full training ahead of the international break, but Amorim decided not to play him straight away.
Despite not getting a call-up for his country, Martinez did join up with Argentina to train and continue his journey to full fitness during the break. Speaking about the chance of him playing on Monday evening, Amorim said: "Licha is getting close to be playing," - a comment that will surely delight United fans across the globe.
