Families at Altrincham's Christmas lights switch-on
star Matheus Cunha might have been a . But hundreds of fans still turned up for 's big Christmas lights switch-on tonight.
The striker, 26, was due to be the star attraction alongside Corrie star Sam Aston at the festive event this evening (Saturday). But in a bizarre turn of events it was announced that the £62.5m Brazilian would not be able to attend after suffering an 'accident in training' earlier today.
But rather than his club breaking the news, it was local community group Visit Altrincham. In a post on social media they wrote: "Unfortunately, Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight’s Christmas Lights Switch on in Altrincham due to medical reasons.
"There's lots of exciting performances to come including Luzahnn of Livin' Joy and Sam Aston, winner of Dancing on Ice 2025, who is Chesney in Coronation Street, will be switching on the lights!"
But despite the cancellation, Altrincham town centre was still packed out for the event, which also saw live performances from Little Belters, The Music Place Choir, Altrincham Garrick Show Choir, Sale and Altrincham Musical Theatre, Cardwell Theatre School and The Randalls Band and of course an appearance from Father Christmas.
