Manchester United are on the market for a new striker in 2026

It’s been less than three months since the summer transfer window slammed shut and Manchester United spent more than £200 million on new attackers. Despite this, the Red Devils are still considering new options to bolster their threat going forwards.

Marquee signing Bryan Mbeumo has impressed in his maiden season so far but Benjamin Sesko’s performances have not lived up to the standard set by many.

The £73 million signing is also now out injured, with Ruben Amorim expected to be without the Slovenian for ‘a few weeks’. In his absence, the United boss has Matheus Cunha and Joshua Zirkzee to fall back on, but the latter’s future at Old Trafford is looking bleak.

Man United eye move for 38-goal striker

According to CaughtOffside, United are among a number of clubs keeping tabs on Serhou Guirassy, who has been impressing with his performances in front of goal for Borussia Dortmund.

The 29-year-old is under contract in Germany until 2028 and United have been described as ‘ones to watch’ in the pursuit of his signature, as Amorim is searching for ‘more experience’ up front in attack.

Guirassy finished last season with a stunning 38 goals across all competitions and he is hoping for another fruitful campaign again, with seven goals and four assists in 15 appearances so far.

The report claims that a €50 million (£44m) release clause in Guirassy’s contract will be active in the new year, but only available to an unspecified select group of ‘elite clubs’. It has not been confirmed whether United are on this prestigious list or not.

Arsenal are also in the picture for the Guinea international, as his style of play reportedly ‘appeals’ to Mikel Arteta.

Joshua Zirkzee blasted for lack of Man United impact

Zirkzee could leave United in January, having fallen dramatically out of favour at Old Trafford. The 24-year-old has played just 90 minutes of football in all competitions this season and has scored just three Premier League goals since his arrival from Bologna last summer.

Last season, United came under serious fire for their dismal run in the Premier League. They finished the term in 15th place with just 42 points on the board, the same tally as Wolves who had previously been tipped for relegation.

United’s attack was criticised as they returned one of the lowest goal tallies of the season. With 44 on the board, only Everton and the three relegated sides found the back of the net fewer times.

Back in January, Jamie O’Hara slammed United as a unit in a scathing review of the first half of their season. Describing them as ‘one of the worst teams in the league’, he then singled out Zirkzee in particular for his poor performances.

“Their options in attack are terrible as well – Amad Diallo is the only player who looks like he deserves to play for them,” O’Hara said.

“Joshua Zirkzee is one of the worst players I’ve ever seen in a Manchester United shirt – it’s unbelievable that he’s playing for them. He’s an absolute imposter!”

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AS Roma are interested in signing Zirkzee, who is eager to get regular minutes in the tank ahead of the World Cup. They are said to ‘confident’ United will ‘maintain their openness’ to a loan deal in January with an option to buy at the end of the season.
