From Brazil: €50m Wolves to Manchester United transfer now close

There’s fresh claims from Brazil of Manchester United working on a deal to sign João Gomes from Wolves.

This comes quickly after a report from the country insisted Wolves have no intention of selling any of Jhon Arias, André and João Gomes in January. That is, unless they receive ridiculous offers.

Jhon Arias has struggled to settle and the Colombian has been linked with a return to Brazil on an almost daily basis.

João Gomes has been the subject of Manchester United interest since he was at Flamengo. The 24-year-old midfielder moved to Wolves in 2023.

Brazil’s Trivela now bring an exclusive which talks up a move to Manchester United. According to Trivela, João Gomes is ‘close to changing clubs’. Talks between the two Premier League clubs have progressed in the past week.

Its made clear those talks are with a view to a January transfer.

Now, how much foundation this all has is the real question. Wolves are in a relegation battle and selling one of their best players wouldn’t be wise. On the other hand, they could use the funds to bring others in. Rob Edwards may have options in mind he feels could have a quick impact.

The latest push feels a little exaggerated, and it’s worth seeing what comes from Brazil and elsewhere in the coming days.
