Man United fans hatch theory about signing Cole Palmer after latest Chelsea update

It is a well-known fact that Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer was a boyhood Manchester United fan.

Cole Palmer was close to joining Manchester United during his academy years. The Wythenshawe-born playmaker rose up through Manchester City’s ranks before making his move to Chelsea.

It has been confirmed that Palmer is a secret United fan, and Jamie Carragher has backed Palmer to join United in the future.

Palmer named Wayne Rooney as an ‘idol’ when explaining why he wanted to wear the No.10 at Chelsea.

Which one striker at their peak would you re-sign for Manchester United right now?

Unfortunately for him, Matheus Cunha has secured the No.10 at Old Trafford, but Palmer is a suitable replacement for Bruno Fernandes with the Red Devils captain linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

One fan page wrote: “They’re already preparing for Palmer’s exit? Yeah, bring him home.”

In response, a fan wrote: “United will welcome him with open arms and roll out the red carpet. However the fee to secure his services would be astronomical.”

Another fan added: “You already know he’s going to be playing for us in the next few years.”

“If we reach the Champions League and Bruno is sold, bringing Palmer in will be a great idea,” one fan wrote.

Cole Palmer’s contract makes Man Utd move difficult

Since their takeover, Chelsea’s ownership have utilised long-term contracts to tie down players.

Last summer, Palmer signed a contract extension at Stamford Bridge that is set to keep him at the London club until 2033.

Who is your dream Manchester United signing in 2026?

It means Chelsea will have full bargaining power if United make a move for Palmer, and the player cannot threaten to run his contract down to try and force a move.

According to Goal, Palmer currently earns around £130,000 per week on his Chelsea deal. United would be able to offer a higher salary, but agreeing a fee with the Blues could prove much more difficult.

Even if Chelsea were planning to move on from Palmer, striking a deal for the England star is far from easy.
