Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has been playing as a wide centre-back under Ruben Amorim.
Shaw has proven to be a resilient presence at the back. Ahead of Everton’s clash, Amorim suggested he is open to pushing Shaw further up the pitch and in a more attacking role.
The question was largely about United’s depth out wide, but the Red Devils also lack serious quality, especially on the left-hand side.
Manchester United should look for an upgrade on Patrick Dorgu
Amorim’s first signing in charge of United, Patrick Dorgu, is still a raw, developing talent.
Responsible for creating width, the 21-year-old brilliantly uses his athleticism to frequently put himself in dangerous areas with a lot of time and space in possession.
However, Dorgu’s technical ability and indecisiveness in the final third leave a lot to be desired. In 31 appearances for United, the ex-Lecce talent has just two assists to his name.

Given the importance of wing-backs going forward in Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation, the club’s hierarchy should explore the possibility of strengthening the position.
Man United enter race to sign Alejandro Grimaldo
According to journalist Ekrem Konur, United are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen star Alejandro Grimaldo.
Grimaldo has the ability to meet the tactical and technical demands of Amorim’s system, having shined as a left-sided wing-back in a back-three system under different managers at Leverkusen and Benfica.
The 30-year-old, who learned his trade in the Barcelona youth set-up, is also incredibly efficient as a set-piece taker.
Grimaldo has been directly involved in 11 goals in 16 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga giants.
It is understood Bayern Munich are pushing to sign the versatile Spaniard, but they face competition from United and Barca.
Leverkusen allegedly want at least around €25 million to part ways with their star player, whose contract runs until June 2027.
