Amorim is clearly a big fan of Mount and the 40-year-old United manager has taken advantage of the former Chelsea ace’s playing skills in his tactical system.

Mount has played in the No 10 role under Amorim’s tactics at United, but the ex-England international can lead the frontline in a false nine role as well.

The United star has made nine appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils in the current season and Mount has scored once and picked up an assist.

Ruben Amorim shows Man Utd fans what he is thinking by using Mason Mount and five others as a key example

Speaking ahead of the Everton match on Monday evening, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was asked about the injury setback to Benjamin Sesko.

Striker Benjamin Sesko suffered a knee injury, ahead of the November international break, in United’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Tottenham away from home.

The 22-year-old forward is likely to be out of action for around a month and Sesko’s injury at United has left Amorim with a conundrum to solve for the short term.

Speaking to Stadium Astro, Amorim was asked how he would approach the absence of his main striker ahead of the Premier League match at Old Trafford on Monday.

Amorim made a powerful point by using Mason Mount, Amad Diallo, Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo alongside Sesko.

“Everyone has the opportunity to fight for their places and then it depends on the way you want to play; what characteristics we change a lot, even with Ben playing sometimes,” Amorim said.

“We put there Cunha, we play with Amad as a winger, sometimes as a forward, you can push Bruno, you can push Bruno to play with Kobbie.

“Like you said, you can push Josh and put Mason Mount on the right, so that is the good thing to have many options because we need to be ready for every game and something can happen as an injury like we watch[ed] with Ben.

“So, everyone has the opportunity to fight for their places and then we will see.”

Amorim is pragmatic with his thinking and the former Sporting CP head coach’s feelings on Benjamin Sesko’s injury show the importance of his tactical system.

Mount might have only scored once this season for the club, but that is beside the point when it comes to the bigger overall picture for United head coach Amorim.

The former Blues ace provided much-needed versatility to Amorim, who wants players who are adaptable to different positions and roles in his system.

If Amorim’s preferred striker is missing, the Portuguese coach is ready to tweak his tactics in a way that can have an impact on the role of multiple players under him.
