Man United are looking to strengthen their ranks and could field this bold player transfer swap deal

Manchester United have plenty of transfer plans on their mind as the January transfer window approaches.

Amorim wants to sign all three players, and there has been mention of selling Bruno Fernandes to raise the funds. Landing three very popular transfer targets from Premier League rivals is a tall ask, so United may need to look elsewhere, and it seems they might be already.

Man United ‘sound out’ Scott McTominay camp

According to a report from TEAMtalk, there have been ‘whispers’ around a potential Premier League homecoming for Scott McTominay, who has become a complete powerhouse at Napoli.

The Scotland international has hit huge new heights recently, becoming a reliable regular under Antonio Conte and helping cement Scotland’s place in the World Cup next year.

The TEAMtalk report claims United are among the clubs who have ‘sounded out’ McTominay’s camp over a potential Premier League homecoming. A return to England could be on the cards for the 28-year-old but the proposition would need to be ‘perfect’.

Given the evolution of McTominay since his move to Napoli, he would be a driving force in United’s current midfield. The Scotland international has risen to new heights with his all-round polished performances, from goal-scoring to physical strength.

Man United could facilitate Scott McTominay swap deal

Some United fans recent aired their frustrations over the decision to sell McTominay, who left for Naples last summer in a €30 million (£25m) move. Following Scotland’s sensational World Cup qualifying win over Denmark, supporters took to social media to express their displeasure over losing McTominay and replacing him with Manuel Ugarte.

For these particular fans at least, bringing McTominay back to his boyhood club would be a monumental move to celebrate. Napoli will be a tough nut to crack when it comes to pitching a transfer plan, but United could have an ace up their sleeve.

A report from TuttoMercatoWeb last month claimed that Kobbie Mainoo is ‘looking elsewhere’ for regular minutes, as he scrambles to avoid missing out on a place at the World Cup. If his limited playing time continues into the new year, Mainoo could continue to push for at least a loan exit, and Napoli ‘would then be among the frontrunners’ for his signature.

While a loan move until the end of the season seems the likeliest of scenarios, his impact on the team could trigger Napoli to make the deal permanent in the summer. This could then provide space for the Italian side to consider an exit for McTominay.

With suggestions McTominay is still enticed by the pull of the Premier League, a potential Man United return cannot be ruled out. With the earlier report claiming the proposition would need to be ‘perfect’, that could well refer to both personal terms for the player, and the offer to Napoli.

While cash will likely need to be involved as well, starting by offering up Mainoo would be a good opener to a potential stellar transfer swap.
