Manchester United target Elliot Anderson produced a fabulous performance for Nottingham Forest during their 3-0 Premier League win over Liverpool at Anfield.
The Red Devils are planning to pursue a marquee midfielder next summer, and The Times recently reported that Anderson has been earmarked as the prime choice.
The 23-year-old is seen as a replacement for Casemiro, who could leave on a free transfer.
The Brazilian’s current £350,000 per week deal expires in June next year. The Red Devils don’t plan to trigger a 12-month extension clause present in his contract.
Unless he accepts a pay cut, Casemiro could be on his way out on a Bosman deal.
Anderson is viewed as the perfect successor. He showed why with a sensational midfield showing for the Tricky Trees against the Premier League holders on the road.
The England international completed 89 percent of his passes with three chances created, but his defensive contributions stood him apart.
The Newcastle United graduate won 100 percent of his tackles (4/4) alongside four duels. He also made six recoveries with two interceptions, two clearances and blocked two shots.
Anderson showed a steely resolve from the number six role, and it is unsurprising that United are planning to swoop for his signature at the end of the season.
The midfielder is valued at £54 million by Fotmob, but The Times recently claimed that it could take almost £100m to prise him away from Forest in the summer.
United could be prepared to make such a huge outlay, as they are yearning for a solid upgrade on Casemiro as well as Manuel Ugarte, who has looked out of sorts.
