Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi has his sights on joining Arsenal amid interest from Manchester United, according to Sunday Mirror (page 71).
The Germany international has been a key player for Dortmund over the past few years, but his future is uncertain with his contract expiring in less than two years.
Dortmund have failed to convince the 23-year-old to extend his stay, as things stand, and the German giants could cash in on his services at the end of the season.
United have established contact with his agent Jorge Mendes to try and secure a summer deal, but Sunday Mirror claim that a move is unlikely on the cards.
The Red Devils have been put off by the £75 million valuation for the player. On top of this, Adeyemi has a clear preference to join another Premier League rival.
The 23-year-old has made it clear to Dortmund that he would prefer to sign for the Gunners if he were to leave the club during next summer’s transfer window.
United should move on from Adeyemi after transfer stance
United reinforced their attack over the summer with the acquisitions of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. Mbeumo has stood out with six goals.
Cunha and Sesko have had their moments in the United shirt and should prove to be quality acquisitions as they adapt further to the playing style during the season.
Adeyemi has been eyed as a future recruit. United have contacted Mendes, who recently brought Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte to the club from Lille and Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Adeyemi seems clear that he does not want to join the club. In our view, United should move on from the versatile attacker and pursue an alternative signing.
The Red Devils tried to purchase Viktor Gyokeres on more than one occasion last summer, only for him to move to Arsenal from Sporting CP. United should avoid a similar situation.
Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo would be a fantastic alternative and would cost much less. The 25-year-old can comfortably play from either flank as well as a centre-forward.
The Ghanaian, who has scored six goals and provided three assists this term, has a release clause worth £65 million for the first 10 days of January. The valuation will reduce to £50m in June.
With the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in the mix to sign Semenyo, the Red Devils may have to push for a winter deal or they could miss out on his services altogether.
