Manchester United are certain to bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson in 2026, according to a report.

The 23-year-old is enjoying a spectacular season despite Nottingham Forest's early struggles. Anderson now looks to be one of Thomas Tuchel's preferred midfielders for England, and he is going from strength to strength in the Premier League.

The more Anderson impresses - as he did in Forest's shock 3-0 beatdown of Liverpool at Anfield - the more likely it becomes that he will be on the move in 2026. Chief among the former Newcastle star's suitors are Man Utd, although there is also interest elsewhere.

A transfer in January appears to be out of the question. Forest have no intention of losing their star midfielder in the middle of the season, and they will demand north of €100 million for his signature.

In the summer, it will be a different story. Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Anderson's 'complicated' Forest deal contains certain machinations that allow him to leave the club for significantly less than €100m after the season.

Man Utd approach a question of when, not if

According to Shaun Connolly, an approach from Man Utd for Anderson is inevitable as they believe that he is the ideal long-term replacement for Casemiro, who will be on his way out unless he takes a sizeable pay cut.

Connolly claims that it is a question of when, not if, Man Utd will try to sign the 23-year-old. "The question is not if the 20-time English champions will approach; it is when they feel a deal could be signed, sealed and delivered to accommodate a push towards Project 150," he writes.

Project 150 is the stated ambition of the new INEOS chiefs, especially CEO Omar Berrada, to deliver a Premier League title for the club's 150th anniversary in 2028.

Man Utd are convinced that Anderson could be the heartbeat of their midfield for the next decade and that he is 'tailor-made' to spearhead the midfield revolution at Old Trafford.

The report adds that the name of Anderson is starting to gain more support than that of Carlos Baleba internally at Man Utd, while Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is also moving up the club's shortlist.
