How Michael Keane privately responded to Idrissa Gana Gueye after Everton vs Man United

Everton have just beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford for the first time since 2013.

David Moyes’ side were terrific from start to finish and fully deserved the three points despite having to play with 10 men for most of the game.

Idrissa Gana Gueye was sent off for slapping Michael Keane in the opening 15 minutes, as the referee deemed it as violent conduct.

Should Gueye have been sent off?

Gary Neville was baffled by the Gueye decision as he felt there wasn’t enough in it, and Moyes wasn’t too happy either.

Now, it has just emerged what Keane privately told Gueye after the game.

Michael Keane has accepted Idrissa Gana Gueye’s apology

Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, James Tarkowski revealed that Gueye apologised directly to Keane in the changing rooms.

“Absolutely unbelievable. We made it a little bit difficult for ourselves, but some performance. Showed bravery, determination, fight and spirit. Massive, that,” Tarkowski explained.

“I didn’t see it, I was walking away to be honest. Gana was just speaking, he spoke after the game and apologised.

What was Gueye thinking?

“He’s a very experienced player, and very competitive, he’s accepted that he’s made a mistake tonight. Keane has accepted the apology. We’ll move on from it quickly.”

David Moyes quite liked Idrissa Gueye’s reaction

Moyes told Sky Sports that he actually quite liked Gueye’s reaction as it shows his players are fighting for every inch.

“I couldn’t understand it. I don’t think anyone could have expected it. Anthony Taylor told me by the letter of the law if you raise your arm you can be sent off,” the Scotsman said.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall silences his critics

“I don’t think anyone else in the stadium would have thought anything of it. I quite like it when my players fight with each other because it shows they care and (put the) demands on players. Disappointed he got sent off. He’s apologised. He praised the team and is grateful for the result. We move on.”

Gueye will now have to serve a three-match ban, so he won’t be back until mid-December. Then he’ll swiftly be jetting off for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Moyes must wish he had Harrison Armstrong at the club, as he’d be a perfect replacement during this period.

Everton have been considering recalling Armstrong after his sensational performances at Preston North End.
