'I’m more concerned' - Ruben Amorim reveals what worried him more than Manchester United defeat …

Manchester United 0-1 Everton match review and highlights

Man Utd were defeated 1-0 by 10 men Everton in the Premier League on Monday night.

Everton played the majority of the match with just 10 men when midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye was sent off for fighting teammate Michael Keane after just 13 minutes. Despite the man advantage, United were unable to match the intensity of the away side and fell to one of their worst defeats under head coach Amorim as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the only goal of the game.

United could have moved into the top four if they had defeated Everton by the same 4-0 margin they managed last season, but instead they remain in 10th, level on points with David Moyes’ side. It was a performance that posed the same questions about United under their Portuguese head coach as their five-match unbeaten run came to an end in embarrassing circumstances.

Amorim names biggest worry after Everton defeat

Ruben Amorim claims he was more worried about the ‘feeling’ he had during Manchester United’s defeat to Everton than he was by the full-time result. United had a man advantage for most of the match but were unable to make it count as they saw their five-match unbeaten run come to an end in embarrassment.

Speaking after the game, Amorim was asked if he considered the result a backwards step for his side. “Yes especially in the way we played the game,” he told NBC Sport. “Forget about the results. The result is also really bad but I’m more concerned with the feeling I had during the game. They were the better team with 11 players or 10. I felt since the first minute that we were not there with the same intensity so they deserved the win.”

When asked what was missing for his side, Amorim added: “The way we faced the game. The other team helped us with a sending off. What we do in every single moment of the game if they have 10 — let’s push the opponent to the final third, to be near any transition, really to be focused on the game.”

Amorim also revealed he did not speak with his players after the match and would instead address the issues at training on Tuesday morning. He continued: “Nothing. We have training tomorrow. I will deal with that tomorrow.”
