2/7 duels, 0/3 crosses, 19 passes: Amorim must drop 41-touch United star vs Crystal Palace,…

Manchester United succumbed to a disappointing 1-0 loss to Everton in the Premier League on Monday.

The Red Devils were unbeaten in five games and were fancied to beat the Toffees at Old Trafford.

They were handed a massive advantage when Idrissa Gueye was sent off for slapping teammate Michael Keane.

Despite this, United could not capitalise.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall opened the scoring for the Toffees with a sublime strike in the 29th minute.

United huffed and puffed, but could not find a way past a resolute Jordan Pickford between the sticks.

There were several disappointing performances, but Patrick Dorgu was probably the worst of the lot.

Dorgu won just two out of seven duels contested from left wing-back, losing possession 11 times.

The Dane registered just 19 successful passes from 41 touches and did not complete a single cross (0/3).

Diogo Dalot unsurprisingly replaced him in the 58th minute and the 21-year-old could be dropped to the bench against Crystal Palace this weekend.

Dalot did not make a goal contribution, but the Portuguese ace had more passes (21) and won more duels (3) during his 36-minute appearance.

The Red Devils had the perfect opportunity to capitalise after the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur dropped points with losses.

A three-goal margin win would have sent them into the top four. Manager Ruben Amorim will undoubtedly be disappointed by the missed opportunity.

United can’t ponder over the result for long. They lacked intensity in the final third playing against 10 men and need to step up in the upcoming training sessions.

The Red Devils have a tougher assignment in Sunday’s early kick-off against Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles are a strenuous opposition to face on their home turf, and United must turn up with a strong performance to get something out of the contest.

Dalot looks poised to be reinstated at left wing-back after Dorgu’s dismal showing.

Joshua Zirkzee had a decent outing and induced a superb fingertip save from Pickford. Still, Matheus Cunha could make his comeback upfront after a minor head injury.
