Ruben Amorim left "feeling really frustrated" after dismal Manchester United display

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim vented his anger following his side's disappointing result as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against David Moyes' Everton.

The Red Devils found themselves with a player advantage just 13 minutes into proceedings as Idrissa Gana Gueye was shown a straight red card following a rare incident between two teammates as the midfielder slapped Michael Keane.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall gave Everton the lead despite the numerical disadvantage with a lovely finish that could not be stopped from nestling in the top corner.

The hosts had over an hour of game time remaining to flip the script at the Theatre of Dreams, but much to the disappointment of the United faithful, they failed to respond to the earlier setback.

Speaking to the BBC after the game, Amorim pulled no punches in explaining just how frustrated he was to be on the losing end of this encounter.

*"I'm feeling really frustrated, like any other person that supports Manchester United. We should be frustrated with the way we started the game and the way we didn't understand how we should play against 10 men.*

"They deserved to win.

"We had a lot of chances in the second half through crosses and second balls, but the quality and decision-making wasn't there. Everton were the better team."

The head coach took aim at the lack of control following the sending off of Gueye, a moment which should have received a response from Manchester United but was instead met with a lacklustre showing.

"After the sending off, I was expecting us to have long periods of possession and to push the opponent. We didn't control the transitions, even with 10 men.

"We were giving them big spaces to win second balls, so the understanding of every situation in the game was not there."

The defeat against Everton provided Manchester United with a reality check, having been on a good run of form as of late. Amorim admitted to the BBC that the result did take him somewhat by surprise.

"Of course it did. I understand that we still have a lot to do, but I'm really frustrated with how we handled the game.

"Especially knowing that we were playing at home, knowing what happened to the other clubs, looking at the table and feeling everything.

"The way we presented ourselves in the first minute of the game is really frustrating. We dropped the level."

Manchester United will now have to dust themselves off as they prepare for a trip to London at the weekend where they will face Oliver Glasner's Crystal Palace.
